The director
Burak Kalkan
Born in Ankara, Turkey, Mr. Kalkan completed his primary, secondary and high school education in the prestigious T.E.D. Ankara College of the capital. He then studied Business Administration in one of the leading universities of the country, ODTÜ, graduating with honours.
After the university, Mr. Kalkan started his career as a management trainee in one of the largest business conglomerates of Turkey, Borusan. However, after being promoted to the position of marketing specialist in the company, he decided to switch business sectors and start from scratch by moving to the advertising industry as a junior copywriter.
After one year in the industry, Mr. Kalkan made another decisive move and went on to study advertising in the U.K. Graduating with a merit degree from the post-graduate diploma program in advertising from the West Herts College, Mr. Kalkan returned to his country to pursue his advertising career in a more equipped and experienced manner. He then worked for many years in international and local agencies alike, earning many industry awards, participating in many advertising award shows (Cannes Advertising Festival included), being honored as a jury member, whilst also translating many written works on his profession.
After many years, many awards and many fruitful campaigns later, Mr. Kalkan decided to continue his career as a freelance advertising strategist and copywriter. It was during this time that he worked as a “third party” supplier to UK-based localisation and transcreation agencies to adapt some global campaigns to fit the Turkish market and audiences. Furthermore, this was also when he decided to return to London, to the venue of the start of his productive career.
He then founded MeaningFull in London, a marketing communications company offering transcreation/localisation services and marketing communications consultancy to small and medium sized companies alike, as well as providing advertising strategies and campaigns to flourishing start-ups.
Possessing a deep understanding of both marketing and advertising principles resulting from his academic studies and his many years in the field on both sides of the table, Mr. Kalkan believes his linguistic skills as well as his past experience on how “cross-borders and cross-cultural marketing communications” activities work will enable him to provide the best solutions to his clients.
